Sony has announced the release of a full-color single-lens microdisplay that will allow you to turn traditional glasses with diopters or ordinary sunglasses into an analogue of Google Glass.

According to the press release, the module for "smart glasses" will be very compact, relatively light (about 40 grams) and most importantly - removable. Thanks to the universal mounting device can be installed on the shackle of ordinary glasses. OLED micro display will get a diagonal of 0.23 inches and a resolution of 640 x 400 pixels. Its contrast will be more than 10,000: 1, and the coverage of the sRGB spectrum is 100%. High brightness (more than 800 cd / m2) will provide use in any light: both in the open air at the height of a sunny day, and in the dark.

The built-in micro-projector will generate a virtual image with a diagonal of 13 degrees, giving the effect of a 16-inch screen at a distance of 2 meters. The size of the virtual image is maximally optimized: the image is displayed in a small window that is offset from the direct direction of gaze. Thus, the natural field of view is almost not reduced.

The module will get synchronization with mobile devices via Bluetooth 3.0. Application developers will soon receive the appropriate SDK. In addition, the “smart eye” will be equipped with Wi-Fi and a pair of traditional sensors, such as an accelerometer and a touch sensor.
Sony plans to launch mass production in 2015. In the coming months, the corporation will launch an advertising campaign targeting leading electronics manufacturers, as well as glasses manufacturing companies. The module itself is planned to be shown at the annual CES 2015 exhibition, which starts on January 6 in Las Vegas. At the event, the device will appear under the name "SmartEyeglass Attach!".
