4-second video from a wearable camera allows you to determine the owner

Although the carrier’s face will be hidden, the camera attached to the head or body will give all the information to identify it. Scientists say that this requires only 4 seconds of video from the camera, which should be compared with the existing rollers in the database - as is the case with fingerprints.

To determine the owner, biometric characteristics are used, such as height, step length, walking speed.

Egocentric Video Biometrics is the name of a published study . GoPro cameras are now common, manufacturers are trying to sell a variety of smart glasses. The anonymity of a user using such cameras is now at risk: the study suggests the possibility of identifying it by comparing with the base of other videos. But there is also a positive side - for example, cameras equipped with a system using this technology cannot be used by thieves, they simply turn off automatically. In social video services, you can configure the automatic detection of the user who shot the video.

For the exact operation of the technology, the camera must be fixed on the human body, so shooting video from a normal camera will not help identification. The minimum video length should be 4 seconds. One of the authors compares technology with fingerprints: it also needs a database for comparison. The more “unevenly” the video was shot, the more movements on it - the higher the possibility of identification. At the same time, even the use of stabilization software will reduce the quality by only 2 percent.
