Roscosmos plans to build a lunar base, to establish industry and mining

According to TASS , a project on the colonization of the moon was sent to the Russian government for approval. First of all, the project reveals the potential of the Earth satellite as a place to host an environmentally hazardous industrial production and mining industry. The moon base will solve such tasks as protection against asteroids and comets, as well as reducing the concentration of industry on Earth.

“The moon is the closest source of extraterrestrial matter, minerals, minerals, volatile compounds, and water. The closest, and so far the only available person. The availability of resources in the Arctic and Antarctic is comparable to the availability of resources of the Moon. [...] As Russia’s space activities develop, the lunar test site will gradually be transformed into a lunar base, around which research and infrastructure will gradually grow, ”the document says, Rosatom, the Space Research Institute of RAS, Kurchatov Institute, Central Research Institute of Machinery.

The exploration of the moon will begin with the creation of an outpost, which will include the power plant, life support module and experimental laboratory module, as well as a set of vehicles - lunar rovers and lunolet. According to the plan, the first 20 years of the expedition to the moon will build and assemble elements of the infrastructure and maintain the existing systems. In addition, in the vicinity of the base is proposed to deploy an astronomical laboratory. The cost of the project, painted until 2050, is estimated at 12.5 trillion rubles.

Roscosmos' previous plans for the development of our satellite included the creation of a lunar visited orbital station based on a module for the ISS and the construction of a ground-based prototype of a lunar base by 2020.
