What you see in the announcement photo is not at all the creation of another asbractionist artist, who displayed his own associative fantasies on the canvas. This is a photograph of the nerve endings of ordinary mice, obtained through the use of special technology.
In the picture you can see the hair follicles, receptors, individual nerve endings. SNAP-tagging technology was used when receiving images. This technology is more than ten years old, but
Italian scientists have used it together with a new protein, whose derivatives pass through tissues, and can be photographed.

Previously, images of this class could not be obtained, since skin samples, although they are easy to obtain, do not respond well to fluorescence microscopy. The fact is that when trying to photograph something in the structure of tissues using blue light, tissues begin to fluoresce, and nothing can be considered. Antibodies and normal SNAP tags are very difficult to enter into skin samples.
Now scientists have bypassed the problem by using a special protein, whose derivatives pass through various tissues of the body, and make such areas clearly visible on a dark background with fluorescence microscopy. The scientist himself is going to improve his method, and try to remove individual neurons of the brain or spinal cord at the time of their work.
