Wikipedia censored by officials because of the CIA torture report

An anonymous user with an IP address of 156.33.241.11 ( registered with the US Senate network) tried several times to erase the word “torture” from a Wikipedia article devoted to a recent CIA report compiled by the Senate Intelligence Committee. The edits were noticed on December 9 and 10 , in each case Wikipedia activists restored the original text.

To track the further actions of officials launched twitter bot @congressedits . It contains the latest edits made from the IP addresses of the US Congress.

The report brought a lot of rustling in the ranks of the political elite. The 6000-page document was compiled from an analysis of 6 million internal documents of the CIA, which took five years to prepare. The report details the methods that CIA agents use to interrogate suspects in terrorist activities in different countries of the world from 2011 to 2006. In the public domain published 525-page squeeze out of the document . But even it contains many shocking facts.

The CIA techniques used include “walling” (strikes against the wall) in combination with holding in the nude, “waterboarding” (pouring water through the fabric), depriving sleep for up to 180 hours while standing up or in a tense posture, rectal feeding and hydration. At least three detainees were threatened that their relatives would be harmed if they did not give out the necessary information.

It seems that in this aspect of "professional" activity, the Americans are not inferior to the NKVD / KGB / FSB.

The intelligence committee came to the conclusion that the CIA regularly deceived the Senate and subjected to torture far more people than official documents say, the NY Times writes .

What is interesting, judging by the results of the report, the most typical result of torture is finding out that a person is not involved in the activities of terrorist organizations. This situation is due to the fact that in some Muslim countries, agents offer a reward for information about terrorists. It is enough to give the name and address of a person to get a reward. Therefore, dishonest citizens "rent" for the money of their neighbors and other suspicious individuals.

The report also states that because of the cruelty of torture, there were cases when CIA agents refused to continue them, but were forced to do so under pressure from the leadership.
