Google has shown a printed circuit board for a working prototype of the modular smartphone Google Ara

Google Inc. continues to implement the idea of creating a modular smartphone, a device where it would be possible to replace individual modules, in order to extend the life of the “base”. Such a smartphone, according to company representatives, could last 5 years, possibly longer.

Now the corporation has even accelerated the pace of work on the project. As a demonstration of the project's progress, the developers showed a photo of a printed circuit board of one of the prototypes of a modular smartphone. The prototype received its own name - Spiral 2.

On the board, one can already see the connectors for connecting individual modules with the naked eye. As far as can be judged, the Spiral 2 prototype is the project closest to the vision of the developers of the Project Ara architecture.

About how the modular smartphone will actually be, the developers promise to tell at a two-stage conference, which will be held on January 14 in Mountain View, Buenos Aires, London and New York, and also on January 21 in Singapore, Bangalore, Shanghai, Tokyo and Taipei. In addition, a broadcast will be organized for those who want to participate in the conference remotely. Apply for participation in the broadcast here .
