The trend of this year is to photograph and video from drones.
The quadcopters equipped with cameras have become better and cheaper, and more and more people choose them as a hobby, and some even become professional aerial photography operators. Drones were used for shooting urban landscapes, nature walks, concerts, real estate advertising, controlling natural disasters, the Olympiad - and, of course, self-shooting (which became known as "dronies").
The popularity of such videos, of course, is partly due to the novelty. But with good luck, the video turns out to be exciting and opens up a new direction for creativity in journalism and cinema. With such a large number of videos is difficult to choose the best. The video should stand out in an interesting location, approach or event. Here is a selection of the best videos shot using drones in 2014 according to the Quartz blog . Beijing illegal shooting ')
Over many areas of Beijing flying drones are prohibited. Last but not least is the Forbidden City. Cameraman Trey Ratcliffe was arrested after his device flew too close to government buildings. Fortunately, he was allowed to leave a video for which he spent five days and present the rare view of Beijing to the world.
Consequences of the collapse in northern Italy
At the beginning of the year in the small town of Tramin (Termeno) in South Tyrol there was a mountain collapse, and stones of different sizes rolled down into the fields. Abandoned city near Chernobyl
Pripyat, a Ukrainian city that was evacuated in 1986 after the Chernobyl accident. Danny Cook shot a video for the CBS “60 Minutes” program, which made a report on radiation in the area. The video shows a ruined city frozen in time, in which, nevertheless, something human remains.
Fireworks on the Florida Shore
"Quadric was not injured," said Jos Stigling, who sent his kopter right into the midst of fireworks at West Palm Beach in Florida. The video shows a pyrotechnic show from a more dangerous perspective than is usually seen.
Hong Kong Stroll
The umbrella revolution in Hong Kong took everyone by surprise - from its own student leaders to the Chinese government. At first, its scope was not fully visible, but after this video (by Nero Chan) it became better visible to the whole world. It was posted on Facebook with a “hope” label.
Philip Bloom shot a video on Koh Yao Noi Island in Thailand (near Phuket). The video looks fascinating, mainly due to the low altitude.
Watching Whales in Hawaii
Proper view of the ocean. Eric Sterman shot a video on the north shore of Oahu, Hawaii.
As a bonus, another whale watching video is Hawaii and California, by Dave Anderson:
Inside the volcano in the south pacific
Sean O'Callaghan sent his drone inside Mount Yasur, a volcano on the island of Tanna, located in Vanuatu. The volcano erupts almost constantly over eight centuries. Surprisingly, the drone came back safe and sound, and brought an amazing video with it.
Burning man, aerial view

Excellent video with a demonstration of Dubai's stunning skyscrapers. Photographed by Team BlackSheep.
Los Angeles music video
Videos with drones are usually good and without sound (sometimes it’s much better without it), but in this case the video is beautiful and the music for it is stylish, modern, youthful.
The independent vocal-instrumental ensemble OK Go used unicycles, schoolgirls with umbrellas in their music video and took it all off with the help of a drone's camera - both inside buildings and outside, from a great height.
Above the clouds of the netherlands
Tower House in Utrecht - the highest church in the Netherlands. Its top is above the clouds when the rest of the city is hidden by them. An anonymous cameraman shot this video after ten months of waiting for the right weather.
Arctic ice - until they melted

Building a new Apple headquarters
Apple's new headquarters in Cupertino (California) is compared to the spacecraft. It is logical that several people raised their vehicles into the air to document the construction site. Presented video filmed by Jason McMinn in August.
Not really a drone - and even the flight of an eagle over Paris
Until now, only birds could enjoy such a prospect. It is logical that the last video in the list was shot by the bird itself with a video camera attached to it, which flew over Paris. (joke about plywood).
