Wire: messenger from developers from Skype, Microsoft and Apple

What happens if the developers of Skype, Microsoft, Apple and Nokia get together? As it turned out, nothing special. They gathered and created another messenger.

Mobile industry and techno-media today shook the news about the release of a new program called Wire. The application, which is a cross-platform messenger, appeared immediately on all major platforms - in the form of applications for iOS, Mac OS and Android. And, perhaps, few people would notice its appearance (think, one more, one less) - there are a great many diverse messengers now, if it were not for the team of its developers, which without exaggeration can be called stellar.

It is headed by Janus Friis, who stood at the origins of the popular communication platform, which is used today by millions. Another co-founder, Jonathan Christensen, developed MSN Messenger at one time, and CTO Alan Durik is known for his work at Camino Networks and Telio. In addition to them, a startup (which, with such a composition and even with modest results, will most likely soon cease to be and develop into a large company, in which investments will simply sprinkle) gathered engineers from Apple, Nokia and Vdio.

The motivation was as follows. “Skype was launched more than ten years ago, a lot has changed since then - we are used to free calls and text messages, and we carry full-fledged computers in our pockets. Now is the time to create the best means of communication, in all its possible beauty and benefits, ”said Friis.

The design is really not bad. Wire supports the well-known Iconical design team, engineers and entrepreneurs, which includes Friis, but with innovations, things are not very good - Wire can make and receive calls, send text messages, videos and photos, share media files posted on SoundCloud and YouTube. But the functions of video conferencing it yet. And although the creators of the messenger claim that they have developed their own audio technology, which is responsible for “clear and clear sound”, we have already seen all these functions in other messengers. Also among the advantages of Wire, Jonathan Christensen noted end-to-end encryption, which makes the messenger one of the safest.

The program is available for free for iOS, Android and Mac OS X, currently we are working on versions for different browsers. By the way, even though the instant messenger is free, it is possible that in the future some functions will be offered optionally for money.
