Challenges and solutions of the future: a lecture by Vladimir Pirozhkov at the World Robotic Olympiad in Sochi
Two weeks ago, the world robo Olympiad ended in Sochi: World Robot Olympiad 2014 . ni404 brought back some interesting materials, the most important of which was a video lecture by the famous automotive designer Vladimir Pirozhkov :
Vladimir Pirozhkov was born in Chisinau, studied at the Sverdlovsk Architectural Institute with a degree in industrial design, and was an intern at Luigi Colani’s studio. He worked as a car designer for Citroën and Toyota. Since 2007 he has been working in Russia.
Despite the fact that the lecture was read for an audience of school age, it will be interesting for adult geeks too. Say, given at the very beginning of the video, an explanation of how innovation differs from modernization, illustrated by many examples, can save many people from further confusion in these two terms. ')
Then Pirozhkov made a small excursion into the history of the aspirations and achievements of science in the 50s - 60s of the last century. From nostalgia for romance and the achievements of the past, he turned to the challenges of the future: food, resource and demographic crises - and technologies that will be relevant in 20-35 years. He made a special emphasis on what problems and how Russia should solve. In general, I acted as a great-power innovator - if you watch the video, then I think you will understand what I mean.
Judging by his performance, Pirozhkov himself also decided to leave the path of modernization (that is, the design of endless variations of the same four-wheel vehicle) in favor of innovation: he talked a little about the project of a hybrid car and helicopter that should solve transport problems in our country. Unfortunately, we don’t know whether there is anything but a couple of pictures behind this concept. If someone reading this post has the opportunity to connect Vladimir with us, we will be happy to talk with him about this (write to egorkotkin@gmail.com).
