Within the framework of the
SETI @ home project , dedicated to the search for extraterrestrial civilizations, not a single proof of the existence of aliens from outer space has been found yet, but a missing laptop was discovered.
The laptop belonged to the wife of one of the program participants, James Melin, and the SETI client was also installed on it. The laptop was stolen on January 1, and since then Melin has been monitoring the SETI database to track when his laptop has connected to the network once again.
Finally, the long-awaited connection happened (and three times within one week), and James Melin sent the IP addresses from which the connection was made to the police. The guards of the order located the computer and returned it to its owner, without arresting anyone, however, writes
