"Key" moment in cooling the processor

The yard was a distant, 2006 year. My “combat” computer at that time was the time-tested AthlonXP 1700+. He had on board 1 Gb of DDR400 memory, IDE HDD as much as 250 Gb and an ATI (then still) Radeon 9800Pro video card, which my playful pens had already reached.

At that time, it was a mediocre gaming machine, there were not enough stars from the sky, NFS Underground 2 ran on it quite quickly. But I wanted, as always, to join the high technology.

Then they began to push forward the Athlon64 processors and the PCI-Express bus. A volitional rogue decision was made: to assemble a new computer based on the availability of money. The first thing was purchased Epox EP9NPAJ motherboard:

Having crushed the toad, the PCI-e video card Asus EN6600GT TOP 256 Mb was acquired. The best choice at that time in terms of price / quality.

Further the painful choice of the processor began: it would be desirable, of course, the top FX variant. But the harsh realities of the Novosibirsk rogue suggested that you need to save on the minimum Athlon64 3000+. So far, at the end of 2005, interesting options, called Sempron 3000+ , designed exclusively for OEM suppliers, have not begun to appear on the shelves.

Having read the reviews and talked to the owners on the forums, it was decided to take him, searching for the version with the Venice core.

And here it is, the nicest moment: there is a motherboard, processor, video, memory, HDD. But…

Everything is there, but the processor is an OEM. No cooler included. We begin the inspection of deposits, is GlacialTech Igloo 2450 Pro:

Fastening clip, whatever one may say, does not fit the new fastening of the processor. A bit short, stiff. But to get a new iron is already itching. Mmmm, look at the motherboard ...

So. Plastic mount is held on two bolts, under the motherboard - metal backplate. In the cooler, it is already quite ready to drink your own clip. We need to find a metal plate, make two holes for mounting ... And profit.

Again I climb into the reservoir, look through the options.

First thought: straighten the clip. I unbend, try on - it seems to fit, but the downforce, after unbending, leaves much to be desired. Yes, and it became some kind of fragile. Looking further, looking through all sorts of different strips. Some short, some thin. And then the look falls on this :

Yeah. I take a drill, try on, mark up, two holes, two bolts from the original mounting, iiii:

We start the system, see what happens - everything is fine, everything works.

This is how the usual key from the castle usually rescued the usual rogue.

I apologize for the quality of the photos - they were made in 2006 on a frying pan ^ _ ^.
