Google glass still alive

Google Glass was widely presented to the public in 2012 and aroused considerable interest, including as one of Google’s products. Later, a group of selected participants of the Explorer Edition program had at their disposal for testing instances of points for the price of $ 1500.

On the past, messages began to appear on the Internet (probably not for nothing) that the Google Glass project did not leave the Explorer Edition stage and its fate was generally not enviable. Not only because the number of news about the project has declined, but also for a number of specific reasons: for example, project founder Babak Parviz (Babak Parviz) left Google and now works at Amazon, technical observers at Reuters claim that many developers have abandoned projects for Glass (including Twitter), and Glass Collective , a joint initiative to create applications, has quietly disappeared altogether. A number of domestic bloggers also expressed their opinion: Google Glass, at best, is something like a convenient video camera for shooting from the “first person”, and there are no real scenarios for using the gadget.

According to the sources of Wall Street Journal, the new version of Google Glass will receive a new, as yet unknown, chip from Intel, which will be a replacement for Texas. This replacement is probably due to the fact that soon after the release of the first points, Texas Instruments left the smartphone business and stopped supporting most of its products in this area. Also a serious problem was Android 4.0, devoid of many features at the time of release in 2011, such as Notification API, Bluetooth LE (Low Energy) and lower overall power consumption, which would be very appropriate for a mobile device accused of just fast low battery.

However, updating to the current version of Android led to the fact that the glasses behaved ugly: overheated, spontaneously rebooted and generally broke (you can read the description of the problem here and here - screenshots instead of links, because the original Google Glass forum is open only for participants of the Explorer program). Thus, the hardware Glass update is supposed to solve the problems described, at the same time providing just more memory and speed than it was done in 2011.
