The European alternative to the modular smartphone Project Ara will begin to be sold in 2015

A well-known Google initiative to create a modular smartphone Project Ara did not go unnoticed by other market participants who began to offer alternatives. Finnish project PuzzlePhone promises that next year they will begin selling their modular smartphone, which generally repeats the idea of a search giant, but makes it simpler, relying, probably, not only on the geek audience. About the project itself became known about a year ago (it is curious that Circular Devices (the developer of PuzzlePhone) is located in the Finnish city of Espoo (Espoo) - in the same place where Nokia’s headquarters is located), but now the creators have decided to remind themselves of numerous online publications, probably closer to release.

The idea of Project Ara is that a smartphone on this platform will be some constructor, where such elements as a display, memory modules, a battery, a camera or, for example, a physical keyboard act as building blocks. At the same time, if some element fails, then there is no need to change or go and repair the device - you can simply buy a camera with a large number of megapixels in the supermarket, for example.

PuzzlePhone actually simplifies this idea to just three components: the smartphone will consist of a “brain” (actually, a compact block of electronic circuits), a “heart” (in other words, a battery) and a “backbone” - the main carrier element of the smartphone (a solid frame with screen, hardware buttons, a microphone, speakers and other components) with neodymium magnets, with which all components will be assembled together. Probably, the idea of simplicity is given increased attention - in an interview with the Finnish edition, the founder of the project Alejandro Santacreu, comparing PuzzlePhone with ProjectAra, beats up the story that NASA allocated millions of dollars for the development of a ballpoint pen capable of writing in space, while Soviet cosmonauts are free treated with an ordinary pencil.

At the moment, the development status of PuzzlePhone has reached a working prototype, and the creators promise to start sales in the second half of next year. From the details it is known that Android will be the operating system, the range of proposed screens will be 4.3, 4.7 and 5 inches .; There are no details about the price of the PuzzlePhone, however, it is traditionally claimed that it will be lower than the existing hardware analogues.
