Smart bracelet Razer Nabu will be released on December 2

The one who closely followed the CES 2014 new products last winter could not lose sight of the chic Razer Nabu bracelet, with which the eminent manufacturer of gaming iron decided to conquer the wearable electronics market. I must say, the Razer project turned out to be very ambitious and damnable attractive: the idea of combining the functionality of a fitness bracelet and “smart watches” in a stylish compact device drew the attention of many. Particularly pleased with the open source policy adopted by Razer, which immediately attracted the attention of independent mobile software developers to the project.

And now, after ten months of thorough grinding in all respects and continuous tests on hundreds of volunteers, Razer officially announced the release date of the bracelet: December 2, 2014. The first test batch will include only 5,000 devices, which will be received only by the lucky ones who managed to issue a pre-order on the official Razer Insider website. The official cost of the device will be $ 100 (not counting the symbolic marketing cent), but “insiders” will get it for $ 80 - as a bonus for loyalty.

In parallel with the release date, the guys from Razer published the final version of the technical characteristics, which is not too different from what we saw at CES 2014. In the “test” version, the bracelet has only one color: the branded “Razer” black-green. With regards to dimensions, there will initially be two formats: Medium-Large (81 mm long, 63 mm high and 13 mm wide) and Small Medium (75 mm long, 59 mm high and 13 mm wide). The bracelet comes with a main OLED display with a resolution of 128 x 32 pixels on the one hand and a very tiny additional display with a resolution of 32 x 32 pixels on the other, which will only display icons when receiving alerts, without any additional information (so that no one did not read what should not).

Battery capacity should be enough for 5 - 7 days of battery life. The rubberized body has an IP54 protection class. This is quite enough to protect the device from drizzling rain or splashes, but still it’s not worth posing as a dolphin with a Razer Nabu on your wrist.

Now the most interesting is the possibilities. Having adopted all the most fashionable trends in the world of wearable electronics, Razer has made the bracelet a lightweight version of "smart watches". The device is able to notify the user about current calls and incoming messages, as well as notifications from social networks Twitter, Facebook, etc. The text of messages can be displayed directly on the display of the device, without burdening itself with the search for a “pipe”.

The device works in conjunction with an iOS or Android smartphone, communicating via Bluetooth® LE. In addition, the Razer Nabu supports its own wireless protocol, allowing two different wristbands to communicate directly.

In addition to advanced communication capabilities, the device supports all the functions of a standard fitness tracker. Here you will find a heart rate monitor, a pedometer, a calorie counter, and a distance tracker, and the ability to track sleep duration. There is even a Razer Nabu alarm function, which is able to silently wake the owner with the help of vibration.

In fact, listing all the features of Nabu is not easy. Thanks to the open source policy, third-party developers have already written dozens of mobile apps for the bracelet, many of which are currently in beta testing. It is worth paying tribute to Razer, which has demonstrated a high degree of marketing awareness in the development of the device, having taken the project aside for all those interested in the first steps and having established interaction with the end user. As a result, we have a very demanded product, combining two evolutionary branches of gadgets and claiming the title of a fundamentally new wearable device. Let the last - just a sonorous marketing ploy, but the device promises to be really popular.
