Windows 10 will play MKV and FLAC files with built-in tools

Gabriel Ole, a veteran of the Microsoft team with 16 years of experience, the leader of the Microsoft Operating Systems Group of the Data and Fundamentals Team, posted a screenshot of the player Media Player on his twitter

It shows that the player is capable of playing FLAC format files - a lossless audio storage format, loved by all audiophiles of the world. Unfortunately, this is not the most common format yet, but if it is supported in the new version of the OS, this situation will change for the better. This is an open format, the first release of which took place already in 2001, it supports the storage of metadata, album covers and other information.

This is a well-known format for storing multimedia data such as movies or television shows. The file can store video, audio, subtitles and other related data. The HEVC (High Efficiency Video Coding) video codec, which is the successor of H.264 / MPEG-4 AVC, and according to the developers, will also be able to reduce data size by half compared to H.264 without losing quality.
