Jordan Hubbard, co-founder of FreeBSD and CTO of iXsystems, spoke at the MeetBSD California 2014 conference on the development of a free operating system over the next 10 years.
At first, he briefly recalled what was happening in the 21-year history of FreeBSD, and then told about what we would like to see in the next decade.
Among the ideas he mentioned are a single / unified data interface for FreeBSD and all services / applications, a centralized event notification system, improvements in the launch of services and the resolution of their conflicts. The last point about improving startup is to fully recycle /etc/rc.d and create something similar to systemd . ')
By the way, Hubbard noticed the presentation and was pleased to quote Lennart Pottering, the systemd developer, on his blog . He recommends viewing it from a time mark of 27:23 .
