Singer Yuri Antonov asked the Prosecutor General's Office to prosecute Apple for copyright infringement

Known to many singer and composer Yuriy Antonov submitted an application to the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation. In a statement, the author and artist asks Apple to be held accountable for illegally selling their songs on iTunes.

According to Antonov, he did not transfer the exclusive rights to use his works to the corporation, which is required in such cases. Therefore, Antonov is going to obtain compensation for copyright infringement (and, probably, moral damage), as well as an apology from the corporation.

“In total, the online store iTunes offers to download 90 songs, the author of music and words to which I am. Exclusive rights to reproduce, distribute, and otherwise use my work in the iTunes Store and Apple Inc. I was not transferred, ”the singer said in a statement to the Prosecutor General’s Office.

In this case, the singer plans to request the maximum possible amount of compensation, which is 5 million rubles for the composition. Since iTunes sold 90 works of the singer, the total amount of compensation could reach 450 million rubles.

It is interesting that the author will demand compensation for the violation of the rights with the help of the Russian Authors ’Society (RAO). It was to this organization that the performer wrote a letter asking him to protect his interests.

Representatives of the organization asked for comments in iTunes, where they received an interesting explanation of the situation. “We received the answer that Antonov's music was provided to the store by a third party - content providers - Routenote / Insomnia Ltd. and Believe SAS /. There and paid money as royalties from the sale of works owned by Yuri Antonov. Thus, Believe SAS received a reward in the amount of 41 rubles 40 kopecks for the whole period of placing the album, and RouteNote Ltd received 1.24 US dollars, ”comments Sergey Fedotov, CEO of RAO.
