An older couple was fined £ 100 for a negative hotel review.

In the field of tourism competition is very high. This applies not only to travel agencies, tour operators, but also hotels. Many hotel owners are trying to do everything, only to get a positive feedback from the guest. This review attracts additional customers, and if there are a lot of good reviews, then there may be even more customers.

Needless to say, negative reviews in the tourism business are not needed by anyone, and many resorts and hotels try to do everything just to appease customers. Well, or intimidate. For example, the Broadway Hotel from the city of Blackpool, United Kingdom, introduced interesting rules for guests: for every negative review left on any website, the guest is promised to be fined £ 100. And this, for a moment, is spelled out in the rules of stay at the hotel, and the client is obliged to subscribe to the rules at the entrance.

And this is not a joke at all - the hotel staff really believed that it has the right to fine guests if they leave negative reviews. Recently, a couple was fined 100 pounds who decided to stay at the hotel for a rest after a long and tiring road.

Tony and Jen Jenkinson signed the rules for staying at the hotel, and Tony read the rules, but didn’t really get into them, and Jen did not sign at all, because she had forgotten her glasses at home.

At the hotel, the couple didn’t like it very much, and while still at the hotel, the couple decided to leave a review on Trip Advisor. The hotel at the same time was called "rotten stinking hole." Not the most flattering review. The hotel staff immediately saw this review and, yes, withdrew £ 100 from the couple’s credit card.

It is clear that Jen and Tony complained to the relevant authorities, this story quickly became viral. Now there is a trial on this case, and most likely, the owners / staff will be punished in any way. Officials who are conducting the trial say that the staff really believed that a new way was found to “prevent” negative feedback from guests.

An interview with the couple can be viewed on the BBC website.
