The high-speed railway lines of Shinkansen in Japan have passed tests of an experimental magnetoplane, which will significantly increase the speed of passenger transportation, compared to the old-generation magnetic cushion trains that are not able to go faster than 320 km / h.
A new train in the first test race between Uenohara and Fuefuki stations reached a speed of 502 km / h at a distance of 42.8 km. ')
The Central Japanese Railway Company plans to continue the experiment for 8 days, with the participation of real passengers. 2400 tickets for the test of the train were raffled among 118,000 applicants. Maglev - magnetic cushion train that uses the effect of magnetic levitation. It is held a few millimeters above the roadway and is accelerated by the force of the electromagnetic field, without touching the rail.
The speed achieved by the train on a magnetic cushion is comparable to the speed of the aircraft and allows competing for air transport in the near- and medium-haul directions.
The video shows the footage of the first test run in Japan.
Although the maximum speed of the Japanese maglev increases very significantly: from 320 to 500 km / h, but the actual travel time of passengers between relatively close stations does not decrease. After all, almost all the way between the stations, the train accelerates and slows down. At maximum speed, he passes not such a long distance.
On the other hand, if you run the train between distant cities without stopping, then the travel time will be comparable to an airplane.
Each train with 16 cars will accommodate up to 1000 passengers.
The new maglev will go into commercial operation in 2027, when the construction of the line connecting Tokyo with Nagoya is completed. Another 10+ years will take the construction of the line to Osaka.
The technology is ready, the problem is only in financing the construction of expensive ways. For example, the construction of the line for the Chinese magnetoplanes Shanghai Maglev Train (maximum speed of 431 km / h) cost $ 1.4 billion.
