We look at the evolution of a 3d printer under a microscope

Good day, dear readers of GT.

Today, cleaning up my desk, I found three identical parts printed on a homemade 3d printer at different times. They were printed on the printer Prusa mendel 2 , which I myself have collected. Today I don’t want to go into the details of the settings and an accurate description of what I did, since this is so complete on the Internet; I want to show clearly how the quality of printing has improved.

Running a little ahead, I will say that in the end I was able to achieve a result. Let's see how it all was.
')

I want to add that I always had a layer thickness of about 0.2 mm, a nozzle of 0.3 mm. I print only ABS plastic, because initially set himself the task of printing durable parts for other printers. Printed at speeds of 40-50 mm / s.

For a start, red color. I remember this coil. This was my first plastic reel. Almost all the coil went to the initial setup of the printer and the knowledge of the basics of 3d printing. Here is a photo taken under a microscope.

In the photo, where the angle of the model is visible, how much poor print quality is noticeable. Here and plastic overflow, and walking on all axes of the hot-end. In general, after this model, a lot of work has been done with speeds, feed, firmware and everything else. Here's what happened:

At that time it was a great achievement. In order to achieve such a result, it took me several months. There were a lot of dances around the printer, all this time I watched the work of my printer, read various articles on Russian and foreign forums, talked with very interesting people and tried different configuration settings. And of course, looking at the work of other owners of printers, I realized that this was not the end and you can achieve even better quality. What, in fact, I did:

At the moment, my first printer can produce this print quality. Visually, this all looks very decent and if I show my work to people who are not connected with 3d printing, many do not believe from the first time that this was done on a homemade 3d printer.

As they say, there is no limit to perfection. I know what can be done even better and how to improve print quality.

I want to add that since the moment when I printed my first model on my printer and got the quality that I was able to achieve at the moment, more than half a year has passed. All this time I learned the subtleties of my home printer and now, on new printers, I manage to achieve good print quality much faster, since I am repelled by my experience and the setup process goes many times faster.

Thank you all for your attention.
