Google leases NASA airfield for 60 years

Google rented a Moffett airfield from NASA, located near Silicon Valley.

Google has long been eyeing this airfield. Initially, the company wanted to rent it for the maintenance of Larry Page and Sergey Brin planes with the condition of the reconstruction of three buildings of the airfield, but NASA rejected this proposal and announced a tender for the project of reconstruction and modernization of the airfield. Google won this tender by announcing that it plans to use the airfield for research and development and testing in the field of space exploration.

On the modernization of the airfield, Google allocates $ 200 million. In addition to the reconstruction and refurbishment of buildings, the company expects to make an exhibition complex in one of the hangars for free visits.

According to the publication TechCrunch, it is possible that Google will move to the airfield all of its research division of Google X.
