BMW proposes to install on the streets of cities with a connector for charging electric vehicles

Electric cars are good for everyone, but so far the infrastructure for servicing electric cars is not too developed even in the most advanced countries and cities. Despite the plans of the same Tesla to expand the network of charging stations for their cars, such points are still not enough and will not be enough in the near future.

It is this, the lack of electric gas stations - one of the main obstacles to the global spread of electric vehicles. Perhaps BMW's proposal will help eliminate this obstacle. A proposal is to equip street lights with a connector for charging electric vehicles. The proposal will be implemented in a test project, which is scheduled to start next year, in Munich, Germany.

Here, BMW will enter into an agreement with local authorities on cooperation. Under the contract, the company will install low-cost LED lights "Light and Charge", combined with charging stations ChargeNow from BMW. Charging the battery will not be free for electric vehicle owners - you will have to pay for everything. Payment is planned to be carried out using a mobile device application.

In addition to the project of the lanterns - charging stations, the company also developed software that helps drivers of electric cars to find a parking place and the nearest charging station. Investments were also made in the projects Justpark.com and SLAM.

BMW has developed very advanced models of electric vehicles, including urban i3 and i8 hybrid. If in Germany there existed a deployed infrastructure for servicing such cars, perhaps electric cars would have become much more popular than they are now.

As for the compatibility of charging stations of various manufacturers, they are also trying to resolve this issue. So BMW management recently met with Tesla Motors management to discuss this issue. With mutual consent, the BMW and Tesla charging stations will be compatible with the electric vehicles of these manufacturers. Perhaps in the near future, other automakers will join the solution of the issue, and they plan to produce and produce hybrids and "clean" electric cars.
