One of the major problems for developing countries is the lack of conditions for caring for premature babies. It is easier in Russia with this problem - we have quite good incubators, in which small children are placed at the right time. And where there are no doctors with a fire in the afternoon, and the hospital did not smell - what are the conditions?
Here for such places was invented MOM - inflatable incubator for premature babies. And the project
won the Dyson Award .

')
The incubator project was originally a term paper by James Robert at the Faculty of Industrial Design. As he himself said, his teacher spoke on this topic: everything that does not solve some important problem is nonsense.
James Dyson and James Roberts.

In recent years, the incubator has not changed much. This air-conditioned box, which is maintained at a certain temperature. In the case of MOM, the system is the same, only a few innovative chips are added to reduce the cost and make the device smaller. The device after deployment becomes a meter long, the temperature is maintained using ceramic heaters. Inflatable walls help to keep the temperature - as well as the double-glazed windows in buildings.
In addition, the device is equipped with a phototherapy lamp, which is needed to help children with jaundice - this is another important problem in developing countries. In general, the "jaundice", as it is called, all newborns have, since they have a very large liver relative to other organs, but it is important to ensure that there are no complications.
At the moment, the estimated cost of such a device is $ 400, but James Roberts will still work on improving and reducing the cost.
