The keys to the hotel room ... in the smartphone

Personally, I would not put a lock on the door of my house, which can be opened with the help of a telephone. But, you see, in the case of a hotel, this is a great option : plastic cards are too easy to sow anywhere, especially if you stay at this hotel not for work issues, but relax.

How it works?

The system is a bit more complicated than you might think, and requires push notifications enabled. You will need to register your smartphone, turn on notifications, and then check in to the hotel directly in the Starwood Preferred Guest app - this will allow you to bypass the administration desk. The application will already know in which room and for how long you stay. Push notifications to the phone will come when you check in at the hotel and when your number is ready.

Then you need to turn on Bluetooth (yes, not NFC, it surprised me too), open Starwood Preferred Guest, attach the smartphone to the lock and wait for the green light to light up.

Where does it work?

Now this system is being tested on guests of ten Starwood hotels located in New York, Los Angeles, Beijing, Hong Kong, Singapore, London and other cities, but by 2015 the company hopes to distribute the system in 140 more hotels.
