Intel has changed the rules of the game. From now on, the names of processors will not say anything

For many, the name of the processor could give at least some rough data on the performance of the purchased computer. In some cases there could be considerable differences in speeds and working hours for different models, usually within 5-15%, rarely more. Now the difference can be at times.

If you are wondering why - welcome under cat.

All the fault of the new processors core 5th generation, code name - Broadwell. Their power can be in the range from 3 to 6 W, and this value can be set not only intel, but also the final collectors. And they will use it for their own purposes. More precisely, already used (the penultimate paragraph).

What does it mean? This means that manufacturers such as HP, Acer, Asus and others will take a model with a large number and high peak frequency and set the minimum power. As a result, it can happen that the processors will reach peak frequency only on micro or even picoseconds and, naturally, for one core, other cores will be switched off altogether. It is clear that such a meager processor time will not be of particular use, but in fact such a processor will work as a model with a small number.

Something similar is already happening when core i3 turns out to be faster than i7 in a number of models. And if now you can still understand something by the frequencies and letters at the end of the model (Y, U, K), then for Broadwell, which will be labeled as core M, it will be absolutely impossible to understand.

The only way to understand what is in front of us now is the test results. And not synthetics, but real tests on everyday programs, so that it does not work out, as on Android with well-known companies, which at the expense of profiles received high test results. Those models were then disqualified when they found out that they cheated.

Who benefits? Of course, collectors. Now they can put one label, and the fact of selling is completely different ... That's how Intel changed the rules of the game.

By the way, the Intel graphics chipset is marked in a very strange way. Let's say the HD 5300 model is slower than the HD 4400 and HD 4600 and significantly slower than the iris 5200 .

PS From myself I want to add that these processors are very interesting. In tests, they are 2.5-3 times faster than the current fastest Atom (TDP 4.5 and 4 W), which in turn overtakes the best ARM processors. It is clear that the tests were at high power. But most interesting, what kind of performance will be in ready-made solutions?
