The release of Ubuntu Mate 14.10 (October 15), based on the newly released Ubuntu 14.10, was quietly and unnoticed.
You say, “yes, Mate can be put in a couple of teams,” and I will answer that you are absolutely right.
Ubuntu Mate gives you the opportunity to use modern OS in the environment (Gnome 2), to which many are accustomed, without requiring additional settings. Who does not know - Wikipedia will help:
MATE is the desktop environment, an offshoot of the code base of the currently unsupported GNOME 2 environment.
This release is not from Cannonical, the development is a separate development team. ')
A short demo video from the developers
I myself came across this project quite by accident when I was looking for an easy way to install Mate on Ubuntu. The fact is that Unity really doesn’t like it, and on a weak netbook it doesn’t work very well. I really wanted an environment similar to Gnome 2. Although Linux Mint Mate is out of the box, the environment has settings that are suitable for developers, but the usual Gnome 2 is a bit different. But at the same time I did not want to bother with setting up the system, I wanted to get everything right out of the box. And as soon as I started looking, I immediately got on the official website of the project . So if you need a modern Ubuntu with Gnome 2 out of the box, feel free to install this distribution.
The familiar look of Ubuntu since Ubuntu 10.10. Mint is good, but longing for the usual Gnome did not let go
F3 works in the built-in file manager (opens the second panel)
No problem was earned by adjusting the brightness and sound on my Asus 1018p (in other distributions, the brightness, if changed, then jerks (familiar to many)
I can’t say about Mint left and disfigured repositories - not competent (for now)
All of the above can be done in any distribution, but I just wanted the box. The rest - another distribution, a descendant of Ubuntu. I'm sure the distribution kit will get its audience.
