Metal gun printed on a 3D printer

Last year, news about a plastic pistol Liberator (Liberator) printed on a 3D printer appeared on the Web. The news quickly spread around the world, enthusiasts of 3D printing and weapons began to develop this and similar projects, distributing models of created pistols on the web. True, this shop was quickly covered by the authorities of various countries (or tried to be covered), since plastic weapons are not detected by metal detectors, therefore they are potentially very dangerous weapons. These were the arguments of the authorities.

Now another gun was printed in the USA, but this time - a metal one. It is called Reason (Argument). Of course, it’s impossible to print such a thing on a regular 3D printer, to create the “Argument”, we used a modified technology of direct metal sintering.

The project itself is based on the Colt 1911, and the caliber of the weapon is 10 millimeters. Notable is the ability to print the smallest details on the case and details. It is worth noting that while it is not clear exactly what metal was used for printing, the company-developer has not provided such information yet.



It is worth noting that the company Solid Concepts not the first time prints metal pistols. The first weapon of this type was created last year, and it was an exact replica of the Colt 1911. The material was stainless steel 17-4PH and Inconel 625. The gun was decided to start selling, however, the price for the barrel was quite high - 11, 9 thousand dollars. Probably, few people will buy a copy of the “Colt” for a price several times higher than the original.


Such devices are used for printing.

Whether the current model will be sold, and if so, at what price - it’s unclear.

Nevertheless, the technology of laser sintering of metal, modified by Solid Concepts, can be used to create almost any metal parts. In this case, you can print not only blanks, but also finished relief parts of complex shape.
