Porsche, Mercedes and Audi are working to create competitors for Tesla electric cars

According to a detailed interview given by German media Manager Magazine , the three largest automakers, Porsche, Mercedes and Audi are now working on their own electric cars.

At the same time, the electric cars that are being worked on are positioned as a “Tesla answer”. The management of these companies, seeing the success of the company of Elon Musk, thought about creating their own accessible electric vehicles.

So, the chairman of Porsche has already stated that his company is working on an electric car, not a hybrid, but an electric car, which will be based on the proprietary platform Modular Standard Platform (Modularer Standardantrieb-Baukasten). Structurally, cars will be similar to the Panamera (the latter have already been offered in the form of hybrids ).

Such an electric car will be equipped with a powerful electric motor and advanced batteries, which will allow you to challenge the Tesla Model S in terms of power and distance traveled on one battery charge. The mass of this car will be less than the mass of Tesla Model S (in any case, it is planned).

True, such a model should appear only in 2018, with such a pace of development as that of Tesla, the company of Elon Mask will clearly have time to create something more perfect and attractive for the buyer.

In addition, Mercedes is also working on an electric vehicle, which is going to oppose the same Tesla Model S. But here we are talking about 2021 in general. Current versions of batteries from Mercedes are too large, and simply do not fit in the manufacturer’s cars.

Finally, Audi, the newly announced Audi Q8 e-tron , is set to release its electric car by 2017. But the Q8 is not a competitor to the Model S from Tesla. Perhaps the Q8 will be able to almost compete with the Model X SUV. But the latter will be released by Tesla in March 2015.

As for Tesla, this company is developing very quickly. A new model is planned for March, a gig factory of batteries for Tesla is planned to be created in Nevada, USA. Elon Musk also plans to significantly expand the network of electric stations, making them accessible throughout Europe, Russia (Moscow and St. Petersburg), Ukraine and Moldova.
