Recently, the government has been more persistently announcing plans for the transition of various government agencies to completely domestic software. Naturally, this process cannot proceed in isolation from the rest of the Russian IT ecosystem. Therefore, we decided to find out how future programmers and developers relate to this idea. To do this, we conducted a survey among students of IT specialties of a number of leading universities: Moscow State University, Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, Moscow State Technical University. N. E. Bauman, MFI, HSE, MESI and some others. With the results of the survey, you can see under the cat.

So, 59% of respondents are categorically against the transition to fully domestic software. 20% adhere to the opposite opinion, and the remaining 21% of respondents believe that it is necessary to combine domestic and foreign software.
From among the ardent opponents of the transition :
- 63% believe that for our country it will be unprofitable in the context of globalization;
- 40% fear of increasing control over the industry by the authorities and law enforcement agencies;
- 27% are sure that switching to domestic software will lead to a decrease in its quality due to the lack of competition;
- 10% believe that the position of domestic IT-companies in the global market will falter.
Among the supporters of the transition :
- 43% are confident that this will strengthen the position of domestic IT companies in the international market;
- 26% note the possibility of gaining technological independence and enhancing the information security of Russia;
- 19% see in this step the prerequisites for improving the quality of Russian software.
We also asked students how they relate to the plans of the government about training a million programmers for the needs of large-scale development of domestic analogues of foreign software.
- Only 20% of respondents answered that they consider this to be feasible, but this requires small changes in the training program.
- 53% are sure that it is necessary to significantly change the training program in order to provide the stated number of specialists.
- The remaining 27% see no other possibility than to completely rebuild the entire education system.
Finally, we asked the students about the problems in the Russian education system.
- 43% noted the low level of training of teachers in universities;
- 35% believe that the training program is significantly outdated;
- 22% see the problem in a small number of educational programs.
