Not so long ago, in California, USA, a law was passed, according to which in each mobile device there should be a “death button” that would allow to destroy data on a phone or tablet if it is stolen.
During the announcement of Android 5.0 Lollipop, developers reported that such a "button" will be in all devices based on the new mobile operating system.

It is reported that the OS will be two new settings. The first setting requires entering a password before resetting the phone or tablet to the factory settings, with the destruction of all data. Without such a password, it will be very difficult to make a hard cut, a non-specialist is unlikely to cope with such a task.
The second setting allows you to remotely lock the phone, making all your data inaccessible. It is also worth remembering that in Android 5.0 Lollipop all user data is encrypted.
Probably, an expert can still get around all this. But if the phone is stolen by an ordinary thief, you will not be able to reset the settings in a couple of seconds, so the probability of finding your phone rises.
By the way, earlier "kill switch" for their phones was introduced by Apple corporation, and now a similar tool is created by Microsoft for phones based on Windows Phone.
