Meet the robot designer Roby

In Hong Kong, sales of the humanoid robot Roby begin, who can communicate, control the TV, dance and do many more useful and useless things. The special administrative district of China has become the fifth regional market after Japan, Italy, Taiwan and the United Kingdom, which has been stepped on by a robot created by Japanese inventor Tomotaka Tahakashi.

The fact that the manufacturer positions the robot as a humanoid is, of course, an obvious exaggeration. He is 34 centimeters tall, weighs only one kilogram. But to perform human actions can really be quite a lot compared to previously similar models of similar capabilities. For example, while interacting with people, Roby gives them his emotions with the help of “burning eyes”, the color of which varies depending on the mood. Possessing a number of all kinds of sensors, Robi can dance to music, play football, and even help with cleaning floors.

Roby can use it in the kitchen, where he can control the cooking time, control the TV by switching channels without using the remote control using his own infrared sensors. Roby knows more than 250 teams and, in addition to the Cantonese dialect for Hong Kong, speaks Japanese, English, Italian and Chinese in other countries.

The idea to create your own robot, which would become a man more than a friend than a housework assistant, came to the assistant professor at Tokyo University in childhood. Later he worked on robot projects with Panasonic and Toyota, and took part in the creation of the famous robot astronaut Kirobo.

“For me, my robot is first and foremost a friend, and I treat him as a living being. And I really hope that there will be warm, friendly relations between people and robots, ”says Takahashi.

However, there is one nuance in connection with which Roby will not soon please his masters. Rights to sell the robot worldwide bought the publishing house De Agostini. According to the distribution model, those wishing to purchase a robot will have to be patient, since it will be supplied in parts, with the latest issues of De Agostini magazine. It is assumed that this way you can get more money out of the money buyers, its users will love more.

In Japan, the sale of a weekly magazine with parts of Robi began in February 2012, and later “De Agostini” introduced the robot in other countries. Every week there is a magazine with the next parts for the assembly of the robot. It is reported that the maximum grade is designed for 1.5 years, or 1,400 euros in terms of European money. The company did not disclose the sales results, but apparently, Robi is selling well - only 25,000 sets have been ordered for Japan for its assembly.
De Agostini does not yet have a schedule for entering other markets, but it is known that the United States and the main European countries will be next.
