Catch under the Christmas tree-2: Fibrum works with any smartphones from 4 to 6 inches
Have you read about a virtual reality helmet for Galaxy Note 4 for $ 200? An expensive toy for owners of Galaxy Note 4, which in itself costs more than 30 thousand rubles. And what can you say about a virtual reality helmet that would fit any smartphones from 4 to 6 inches, including the same 5.7-inch Galaxy Note 4?
This helmet was shown on December 9 in Moscow by the Russian startup Fibrum : Fibrum Lite virtual reality helmets with a viewing angle of 90 degrees (â‚˝ 2,990) and Fibrum Black with a viewing angle of 110 degrees ( â‚˝ 4,990 ). The helmet supports Apple, Android and Windows Phone smartphones. Later, they promise the Ultra version with its own screen, processor and video card, as well as a joystick and a virtual reality glove. ')
As it is now fashionable to say, this is a completely Russian gadget: the company's head office is in Moscow, all production is conducted in Russia. However, moving to Chinese production facilities is not excluded. The Fibrum team consists of fifteen people, the development was started in 2013.
Our company was one of the first to understand the prospects and growth potential of the virtual reality market, starting the development of the Fibrum helmet in November 2013, long before the news about the purchase of Facebook by Oculus Rift, as well as before the presentation of the Samsung Galaxy VR.

Fibrum says that at the SEO conference, the AR Conference, the Robotics Expo, the Fibrum press conferences and during private screenings in their office, the helmet tried on more than 6,000 people. Among them was the ni404 , which found the Fibrum is not very convenient: according to him, because of badly sweating face, I want to take it off after five minutes. The developers promise in the consumer version to take into account this problem, how exactly, do not specify.

Since Fibrum and Samsung Gear VR Headset are almost direct competitors, we did not miss the opportunity to ask both companies what they think about each other’s developments:
The Fibrum Question: How is the Samsung Gear VR better than the Fibrum?
Samsung Gear is no better than Fibrum. The competitor - yes, but for “Gear” only Galaxy Note 4 is suitable, which dramatically reduces the audience of the helmet. Our helmet is absolutely universal. Well, they do not make applications, and we make both applications and our platform.
- Ilya Flax, CEO of Fibrum
Samsung's question: are you afraid that Fibrum will eat up the market share of Gear VR Headset in Russia?
Gear VR is not available on the territory of the Russian Federation, at least for the time being. Therefore, there is nothing to eat yet. The main point when choosing glasses of a manufacturer will be the presence of content - large and different. Since Samsung is actively cooperating with Oculus, then I think we will have priority in terms of available applications.

Fibrum plans to make money both on individual sales (the company talks about ten thousand pre-orders; they do not specify the number of paid orders) and on large deliveries: negotiations are underway with the airlines and Russian Railways on the delivery of Fibrumov for use as personal cinemas. In the near future, the Fibrum franchise will be opened - amusement stands in shopping centers and city parks to showcase virtual reality applications and helmet sales. The company claims 10,000 pre-orders, declined to specify the proportion of paid orders. In turn, sales of the Samsung Gear VR, according to Tambovtsev, started in America just last week: “so far we have no sales information.”
What else?
The niche of virtual reality helmets for mobile devices is not limited to these two representatives. At Kickstarter, they collect money for a similar helmet-glasses for iOS :
