The Internet Protection Society presented an indicator of Internet Runet connectivity

Yesterday, the founder of the Internet Protection Society , Leonid Volkov, announced the launch of a monitoring service that calculates the number of links between the Runet and the rest of the Global Network. According to him, as of March 10, there were 54098 in the global routing system of the Autonomous Systems Network (AU). Among them, 4,673 Russian. 878 Russian AUs have at least one connection to foreign AUs, and 279 foreign AUs are connected with at least one Russian system.

At the moment, the connectivity index is 2550. The more this number is, the better. The index represents the total number of links between the Russian and foreign autonomous systems, which are calculated on the basis of data from the RIPE Atlas . The monitoring service was launched in order to eliminate the situation of slow transformation of the Runet into an autonomous system, with a gradual shutdown of the number of connections with the foreign segment of the Network.

Over the past few years, the number of such connections has been a more or less constant value, with fluctuations of about 10%. According to the project initiators, if the connectivity starts to decrease, then this will already be a cause for concern. A serious signal, according to Volkov, will be the decrease in the index to 2000 and below.

As for the connectivity of the Runet with the foreign segment of the Network, only logical connections are taken into account here. Physical connections are not taken into account, although work in this direction is underway.

“The meaning of the“ Connectivity Monitoring ”project is precisely this: to make sure that the authorities could not disconnect the Internet from the outside world in Russia, somehow quietly and imperceptibly cutting off the connection with it, and then tugging at the switch. Thanks to public monitoring, it will not be possible to cut the connection “quietly and imperceptibly”, ”said Volkov.
