The last few days,
various sources have reported the arrest of mathematician Dmitry Bogatov in connection with posting
materials on the Internet from his IP address.
A few hours before the
published search time (approximately 11 pm on April 5 Moscow time), the output Tor node administered by
Dmitry Bogatov <KAction / at / gnu / dot / org> disappeared from the network for more than a year and a half (Atlas removes information about the off more weeks, but the page is available
in the archive ). Judging by the updated Dmitri's
web page , three hours before the exit-node is turned off, the mathematics teacher, KAction@gnu.org and the arrested Dmitry Bogatov are one person.
I don’t know whether Dmitry himself posted
materials while away from home, or whether it was one of the Tor users who used Dmitry’s site — one of a
thousand similar ones. But it seems now from a practical point of view to the question.
Were there any cases of conviction for Tor Exit-node in Russia? You can answer in the affirmative with some degree of certainty - Dmitry was arrested for two months. This is the first case of arrest of the operator of the
output node of the Tor network in Russia that I know of. If the position of the prosecution is based on the coincidence of the IP address, then now operators of open wi-fi points in public places, users of the
Hola VPN service, who work
along a somewhat similar principle , not to mention infected personal computers and botnets from routers, are also at risk.
PS It would be interesting to see the published list of IP addresses with timestamps of the user sysadmins.ru named Ayrat Bashirov and compare it with the list of Tor output nodes.
