“The Russian government has passed a new law that stipulates that every provider must register all Russian Internet traffic and store this information for up to a year. We believe that because of this law, some of our Russian servers were seized by the Russian authorities without any prior warnings and bypassing due legal procedures, ”the provider support page says .

Due to the fact that the company does not store logs on servers, user information has not been compromised.

After this incident, the company decided to curtail its activities in the Russian Federation.

“As soon as we learned about the incident, we immediately closed our Russian gateways and will no longer do business in this region,” adds the administration of Private Internet Access.

The provider also notes that user security is a priority. That is why in the last update of the VPN client, they paid particular attention to increasing the level of protection and enhancing traffic encryption. In the manual configuration mode, users will have access to the AES-256, SHA-256 and RSA-4096 protocols.

Recall that at the end of June the State Duma of the Russian Federation adopted the entire package of anti-terrorism laws of Yarovaya-Ozerov, named after the authors. Accepted documents imply storing information about communication sessions using a cellular network and the Internet, as well as obliging providers to keep logs and call records for up to a year.
