The Intercept has released a fresh batch of Snowden leaks

Resource The Intercept has published new material obtained from the archives of Edward Snowden. The authors of the publication called it The SIDToday Files, since all the documents relate to the activities of the special division of the NSA Signals Intelligence Directorate (SID). The themes of the leak are quite diverse: from the war in Iraq and cryptography to April Fools' jokes , discussed by the NSA agents. A total of 166 articles are available, dating from a relatively short period of time - from March to June 2003.

As far as can be judged, the documents do not contain any incredible disclosures, since they actually were materials from the NSA's internal site, accessible only from the agency’s network, and simply describe the internal kitchen of the work of this organization. The accompanying leak of the document states that the Snowden archive was originally a set of ordinary HTML pages, but without images, CSS, and other files needed for high-quality display. For this reason, The Intercept employee Mike Lee (Micah Lee) had to use special software to extract text from HTML and generate readable PDF files based on it.

The preparation of the publication materials was led by former Guardian employee Glenn Greenwald, who had already had experience of such revelations at his previous place of work. Editorial processing has allowed to hide data that is clearly sensitive to disclosure, which could harm specific people and hinder the main purpose of such disclosures - “changing the principles of the work of the special service, allowing itself too much and hiding behind words about countering terrorism”.

Everyone is welcome to work on documents, and you can report on the results of your research using either the public email addresses of The Intercept employees, or anonymously, following special instructions . All documents are available on GitHub or by direct link .

The Intercept began work in February 2014, and in March laid out a portion of documents from Snowden. Recently, the site laid out other data from the former contractor of the NSA. Then the leak described a program to use drones for military operations in Afghanistan.

The US National Security Agency’s Signals Intelligence Directorate ( SID ) department is engaged in electronic intelligence, that is, the collection, analysis, creation, and distribution of radio signals and data on them. Some SID subdivisions are engaged in cyber espionage, including hacking computer networks around the world and intercepting satellite communications data.

By the way, the premiere of the film “Snowden” will take place on September 16 of this year, the main role in which is played by Hollywood actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt. One of the most spectacular episodes of the trailer is the passing of customs control at the airport by Snowden along with a memory card hidden in the Rubik's cube:
