Apparently, the same story happens with scientific conferences. In this case - on computer security. At a dubious conference drew the attention of Richard Clayton, a computer security specialist from Cambridge.

Fordham University has been holding the International Conference on Computer Security (ICCS) since 2009. This year it will be held in New York in July. The organizers gathered a worthy program committee of university academics and representatives of the FBI.

At about the same time (July 21-22), another ICCS 2016 conference was scheduled in Zurich. The organizer is WASET - the World Academy of Science, Engineering and Technology. The program committee presents less well-known characters. Richard Clayton does not know any of them. According to him, the most respectable among the members of the committee is “Wei Yan from Trend Micro”, if you do not take into account that this Wei Yan has already changed three jobs after leaving Micro Trend Micro in 2010. One can only guess how many members of the organizing committee are generally aware that they were included there.

There is another reason to consider the Swiss conference a dubious event: on the website it is declared as the “18th ICCS Conference”. Some might suggest that there were another 17 in front of her ... but no, it was not. At least, on the Internet you will not find references to them.

Richard Clayton found another 2nd International Conference on Computer Security ICCS 2016 at the Technical University of Rajasthan (India), but it looks quite personable , with invited experts from India and the United States.

So, if you are going to go to Switzerland for the International Conference on Computer Security in the summer, think again.
