Snowden said that he uses the Signal messenger

In his twitter, Edward Snoden said that in his daily work, he prefers to use the mobile Signal messenger, drawing attention to the fact that he recently released his Android version. As usual, Edward did not forget to push the security services by adding the #notesforFBI tag (# notes to the FBI) and making it clear that the department already knows what program he uses for messaging.

The announcement of the release of Signal for Android appeared yesterday, before the messenger was already working on iOS (from which one can draw a careful conclusion that Snowden used either the iPhone, or the previously existing Android program TextSecure, which is also designed for secure messaging). The Signal interface strongly resembles other similar messengers, however, like Telegram, it emphasizes the confidentiality of messages: encryption keys are only on user devices. In addition, during its work, Signal blocks attempts by other applications to take screenshots of the screen.

The Signal code is open and available on GitHub . The development is conducted by Open Whisper Systems through donations and grants, while the authors promise the absence of any monetization methods in the future, including advertising. Earlier on Geektimes it was reported that Pavel Durov does not feel guilty due to the fact that his Telegram messenger is used by ISIS terrorists, because if it had not been for Telegram, they would have found another way to communicate. “Privacy is much more important than any of your fear of any bad things, like terrorism,” he added.
