Photo of Thomson ReutersWikileaks founder Julian Assange has been on the territory of the Ecuadorian embassy in London for so long that the statute of limitations on Assange’s sexual harassment charges brought against him by two women in Sweden will soon
end . Precisely to avoid extradition to Stockholm, Assange has not left the territory of the Ecuadorian embassy for three years now - this way one of the charges will be dropped from him on Thursday due to the expiration of the statute of limitations. The second charge will be dropped next week on Tuesday.
Nevertheless, this does not mean that Assange will be able to "go free." Among the accusations of the founder of Wikileaks, there is also a rape charge, the limitation period of which will end only in 2020. If Assange decides to wait out this charge, then by the time the Swedish accusations expire, he will be 49 years old. It is curious to note that the British government for the three years of protection of the Ecuadorian embassy, which was conducted with the aim of excluding the escape of Assange to a neutral country,
spent 10 million pounds sterling. One British Foreign Ministry official acknowledged that the problem with the founder of Wikileaks "is deeply disappointing and extremely costly for the country."
Meanwhile, Assange feels relatively well at the embassy: in 2012, in an interview with Daily Mails, he
spoke about the details of his life. According to him, he sleeps in a room on a mattress, he has books, leather chairs, a treadmill and a fluorescent lamp. Assange devotes almost all his time to work, preferring films and series as entertainment. Fresh foods are brought to him by friends and embassy staff.

During the same time, Sweden repeatedly asked Ecuador to arrange access for Swedish prosecutors to Assange to interrogate him, guaranteeing the security of Assange himself, but Ecuadorians pulled time, constantly coordinating the issues and requirements of this procedure. In the end, the Swedish authorities received permission to talk to Assange on June 17 of this year, but their visit was canceled at the last minute, and the two sides blamed the charges for this.
Julian Assange himself denies all the charges against him, calling them politically motivated and US revenge for publicizing Wkileaks secret documents. During his forced "imprisonment" about Assange, they managed to make a feature film "
The Fifth Power ", in which the main role was played by British actor Benedict Cumberbatch.
