Ketchup Heinz sent buyers to the porn site (forgot to extend the domain)

On June 17, the German registrar Denic finally divided the domain sagsmitheinz.de, which turned out to be involved in a funny story.

A few years ago, the ketchup maker Heinz used this domain for a contest of labels on ketchup cans. The URL and QR code were indicated directly on the label. At the end of the competition, they did not extend the domain, and cunning businessmen of the porn industry immediately jumped around.

This fact was complained to Facebook by the ketchup buyer Daniel Corell (Daniel Korell). “Your ketchup is probably not for minors,” he wrote in a message dated May 23 and showed a photo of which site is loading if you scan the QR code from the bank. Nearby is a smartphone with a loaded porn site m.fundorado.de, which is redirected to sagsmitheinz.de.

Representatives of Heinz quickly entered the thread and began to apologize. They explained that they did not extend the domain after the end of the competition about a year ago, and these banks with old labels are remnants of which the shelf life has already expired. They also suggested that the injured Daniel do his own personalized label, and he would get this ketchup can for free.

Corell kindly accepted the invitation, although he noted: it is strange that the company did not renew the domain for another one or two years after the end of the competition. The domain costs about 9 euros per year; this is not space money for such a large corporation. Who knows, because many people store products longer than the specified expiration date: do they really need to show porn for it?

A week later, representatives of the Fundorado porn company appeared in the thread and said that they would not leave Daniel empty-handed either. He was offered a free subscription to the Fundorado.com website for a period of one year.

They noticed that such errors are quite possible: for example, one of the Heinz ketchups is called Heinz EZ Squirt: a very ambiguous name for a splashing product.

The Fundorado page also contains Heinz thanks for free public relations.
