A photo of the column in Fort Green, New York, appeared on twitter @ illuminator99, on which instead of the bust of Edward Snowden dismantled yesterday afternoon is his hologram with the corresponding signature. Twitter authors call themselves a “political art project” originating from Occupy Wall Street protests, and say they want to draw attention to someone who “sacrifices his security for the sake of fighting modern tyranny”.
On the morning of April 6, three unknown persons
installed a bust of former CIA officer Edward Snowden on the memorial column of fighters for the independence of America from Great Britain in Fort Green park, fixing it on top of the column with glue. Morning visitors to the park did not notice anything unusual. A few hours later, a statue about 1.2 meters high and weighing 45 kilograms was discovered by the administration and moved outside the park. New York police launched an investigation into the incident.
The action Illuminator, according
to the authors of their blog, is intended to show that "although the authorities can remove any material reminders of the fight against authoritarianism, the very act of resistance will still remain in public consciousness." Now Edward Snowden is in Russia, where he received a three-year residence permit. According to his lawyer, Anatoly Kucherena, Snowden expects to return home,
hoping for an open trial in the United States.
