Topface dating site hacked: 20 million email addresses on sale

At underground Russian forums, the Topface dating site user database is on sale. The database includes about 20 million email addresses and user names, including 10 million Russians and 8 million citizens of the European Union.

A suggestion on the forum was discovered by security specialists from the company Easy Solutions Inc.

The database does not contain account passwords, but 20 million email addresses are also quite valuable information, so attackers will easily find buyers for their goods.

The owners of Topface promptly responded to the message about the leakage of user data and published a statement .

1. At the moment we do not have confirmed information that some data was really stolen. Our users' data is securely protected and we are investigating leak information.

2. Almost 100% of our users use Facebook, VKontakte and other social networks to log in to Topface and we do not have access to any passwords or other secret information. We also never store user billing information. All we have is email addresses that cannot be used without other information to access any sensitive information. In this regard, we are absolutely sure that there is no threat to the safety of our users and they do not need to take any special actions.

Since 2011, more than 90 million users have been registered on the Topface site since its launch. Dmitry Filatov’s company competes with Mamba, Badoo and Tinder.
