Hacked e-mail system of the US Department of State

According to Reuters , the e-mail system of the US Department of State has undergone a hacker attack, which lasted several weeks. At about the same time, attacks on the IT infrastructure of the White House were carried out. A system serving open documents was hacked, and it is alleged that no secret information was stolen.

In connection with the attacks, specialists had to temporarily impose restrictions on the system. State Department officials complain that because of this they cannot go online or receive letters from anyone outside the institution. Internal mail continues to work. Department spokesman Jeff Ratke told reporters: “The State Department, like any other organization on a global scale, is constantly becoming a target of cyber attacks. We noticed suspicious activity a few weeks ago. There is no reason to believe that secret information was stolen. ”

In addition to these organizations, the Department of Personnel, the USPS United States Postal Service and even the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration have also been attacked. The USPS reported that they had leaked personal data to more than 800,000 employees and personal data from customers who communicated with the mail this year.

Apparently, it is not a coincidence that the White House was thinking about choosing a new data center for its infrastructure - this was recently reported by the ua-hosting company blog. .
