Internet Archive unlocked in Russia

Roskomnadzor deleted the resource from the registry of prohibited sites

Roskomnadzor removed Internet Archive from the list of banned sites. Now the site can be freely accessed with Russian IP, although there are exceptions: so far not all Russian users have access to Archive. Most likely, these exceptions are connected with the updating of the DNS protocols, and within a day all Internet users from the Russian Federation will be able to work with the specified site.

In the registry Internet Archive stayed for almost a year. Roskomnadzor blocked the resource in June 2015, when an entry on domain blocking and the IP address of web.archive.org (207.241.224.26) was entered in the Register of banned sites.

Confirms the unblocking of the resource and antizapret.info

Initially, Roskomnadzor restricted access to the archive.org/details/odinochniy page, according to the decision of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation dated June 16, 2015, on the basis of article 15.3 of the Law “On Information, Information Technologies and Information Protection” But then other pages were added to the registry. I note that this was not the first blockage of the Internet Archive in the Russian Federation. On October 24, 2014, Roskomnadzor registered the domain itself and the IP address of the Archive in the register of prohibited sites.

The Internet Archive is a non-profit organization founded in 1996 by Brewster Keil in San Francisco. The archive collects copies of web pages, graphics, video and audio recordings and software. The archive provides long-term archiving of the collected material and free access to its databases for the general public. The declared purpose of the Archive is to preserve the cultural and historical values of civilization in the era of Internet technologies, to create and maintain an electronic library.
