ROCIT: Russia should have free access to the Internet

During the cyber security forum of Cyber Security Forum in Moscow, an opinion was expressed about the need to introduce free Internet access in Russia. This was stated by State Duma deputy and chairman of the Regional Public Center for Internet Technologies (ROCIT) Leonid Levin, writes the agency "Moscow". This is not about the free Internet everywhere, but about free access to the Network for some categories of the population.

“In the future, Internet access should be free. In addition, the availability of the interface is important. This means that it should be easy to go online to, say, programmers and grandmothers as well. We will be happy to contribute to this and hope to succeed, ”said Levin.

In Russia, there is now a fairly high level of broadband penetration, as well as a low price for Internet access - the average price for broadband Internet access services is one of the lowest in the world. “As a result, we didn’t even have to introduce a legislative ban on charging additional fees from citizens for domestic roaming services - the tariff reduction itself equalized users in different regions of Russia,” the deputy said.

The Chairman of ROCIT also stated that freedom of expression is an indispensable part of communication on the world wide web. “Russian Internet users should be able to receive information from anywhere in the world regardless of the political or economic situation,” Levin said.
