On August 10, the Prosecutor's Office of the Central District of St. Petersburg
submitted to the Smolninsky District Court of St. Petersburg an application for recognition of information posted in the virtual community of MDK on the VKontakte network, which is prohibited for distribution in the Russian Federation. Today the court
satisfied the requirements of the procurators.
MDK is one of the most popular VKontakte communities with almost 6.8 million subscribers. Public topics include entertainment content in the form of pictures and texts. Often, page owners resort to obscene vocabulary and touch on topics that are tabooed in society: the
death of celebrities and
terrorist acts . The page was
accused of extremism and xenophobia .
In April of this year, a citizen addressed the prosecutor’s office with a complaint about the community content. An inspection was conducted on the fact of violation of the Federal Law "On Freedom of Conscience and Religious Associations" and the Federal Law "On Information, Information Technologies and Protection of Information". It was found that the community "posted information materials that offend the feelings of believers, degrading different groups of people on the grounds of religious and national identity."
We are talking about the images of Jesus Christ, which, according to experts involved in the case of the Herzen University, were posted with insulting postscripts and signs. At the moment, the materials have been removed from the resource. But experts note that the community still has obscene language and pornography.
