On the long-suffering island of Cuba , the first (known) open internet access point appeared. It was equipped at its own expense by the popular local artist Kcho, with the approval of the provider Etesca. Point, deployed in the cultural center of Havana, attracts young people from all over the country.

Kcho managed to arrange such a service thanks to connections in the government. Fidel Castro himself opened this cultural center in 2014. The artist was allowed to share his Internet connection in the Ministry of Culture of the country. The speed of its connection is 2 mbps.

From the point of view of the majority of users from other countries, the access speed divided by dozens of visitors to the center becomes paltry. But this point is almost the only window into the world for Cubans who can not afford their Internet. Some Cubans, in hopes of high-speed Internet, even come to the cultural center at night.

In the country, every home access is established with the permission of the officials, and the subscription fee for broadband access is estimated at hundreds of dollars. Only rich foreigners living on the island can pay for the cable. There is a dialup, which is also tightly controlled by the relevant authorities. In addition, many public Internet cafes have opened in Cuba, where the cost of one hour of work is $ 4.50. The average monthly income per person is $ 20.
