Roskomnadzor may block GitHub again

The events of the evening of October 2 of this year were diluted with the news of GitHub getting on the black list of blocked Roskomnadzor sites. For those varieties of geeks who do not write code: this is not just a very useful service for hosting open projects, it is the de facto industry standard. A link to a profile on Github is both a way to announce your projects, an indicator of who you are in the software world, and just a resume for an employer.

Blocking a service of similar importance caused a heated discussion at the Habrahabr . The site was eventually removed from the blacklist. The user amdf, who placed the suicide.txt file in his repository, remained anonymous, although a good attempt was made to establish his identity based on open source data.

But GitHub risks blocking again. About an hour and a half ago, the following entry appeared in Roskomnadzor’s official Twitter account:

The link in the tweet leads to a record in the community "VKontakte". The community can be easily mistaken for a parody, because a frivolous picture is attached to the record. But above the title of the page hangs the text "Official Community". Apparently, SMM-managers of the state organization want subscribers to be aware of all youth trends.

In addition, "Habrahabru" is invited to somehow "assist". What is meant by this expression, it is unclear, “Themed Media” have nothing to do with GitHub.

The blocking will cause quite tangible damage: getting GitHub to the registry of prohibited sites means that freelancers and remote workers will not unload their work on time, wander around the site and get acquainted with other people's projects, too, will not work. The Streisand effect can also work: all attempts to hide illegal content only attract more attention to it.
