How to teach Launchpad to remove applications that are not installed through the App Store

In modern versions of macOS there is a rather beautiful and convenient interface for launching applications, called Launchpad. Unfortunately, it is far from perfect. In particular, it does not allow renaming applications, as well as hiding those turned out to be unnecessary, while leaving them on the disk. But the problems mentioned are easily solved by the same Launchpad Manager.

However, there is another rather strange point. Quickly and easily remove the application with a button in the form of a cross over its icon is possible only if it is installed via the App Store.

Welcome under the cat, if you're wondering how this can be overcome ...

The ability to once and for all force the display of crosses to remove any applications unfortunately is missing. However, by completely simple manipulations, you can easily make any specific application deleted via the Launchpad, with the exception of system applications.

  1. Go to the desired application in the folder "/ Applications".
  2. In its context menu click on "show package contents".
  3. Go to the only folder here "Contents".
  4. Create a new folder here, calling it "_MASReceipt".
  5. Inside the newly created folder, create a file of any content (you can even empty) called “receipt” (just like that, without an extension).

Is done. Now the application, on which we have just “worked a little bit with a file”, can be deleted directly from the Launchpad with an ordinary cross, as a general rule available only for applications from the App Store.

If you have time and desire to rotate these actions, you can for all applications installed on your computer.
