Getty Images, a US photo agency that owns one of the world's largest image banks, has accused Google of "promoting piracy" in the Pictures system.
Initially, Google Images displayed images in thumbnails, and then it was possible to view in full resolution by clicking the "Open full size" button.
It is to this button claim. According to the photo agency: The Google Picture user has almost no incentive to view the image on the original site, since the full image is already available on Google. It also contributed to piracy, which led to widespread copyright infringement, turning users into random pirates.

In April 2016, the photo agency published
an open letter to photographers, photojournalists, asking them to join the Getty Images petition, writing to the relevant regulators of antitrust laws. The agency itself filed a complaint with the European Commission.

Instead of litigation, Google and Getty Images in early February 2018 announced
a licensing deal that would allow the use of Getty images in Google services. The first step in the implementation of the agreement was the disappearance of the “Open in full size” button.
This creates inconvenience for users who would like to download free images. Images are still available in full resolution, but now the user needs to right-click on the found image in Google Images and select "Copy image address." And then open the image from this link in another browser tab.
Alternatively, you can return the button by installing the
Joshua B image extension.
